Business AI Society exists to equip the Baylor community to learn, build, and apply artificial intelligence in approachable and responsible ways through education, hands-on development, and community collaboration.
About the society
Curiosity, made useful.
The Business AI Society (AIS) is a Christ-centered, student-led organization at Baylor University. We exist to turn interest in AI into real capability: teaching the tools, building real systems, and carrying their impact across campus and beyond.
The Business AI Society is a place for students who want to actually understand and use AI in a real way, not just hear people talk about it. It is built for beginners and for students who want a deeper, hands-on experience.
On one side, we help students learn through guest speakers, workshops, case studies, ethics discussions, and foundational AI training. On the other, we create opportunities to work on real projects, build tools, and explore AI systems, gaining practical experience that connects to business, technology, and real-world problem-solving.
The goal is a community around AI that is both educational and action-oriented. It is not just for highly technical students, and it is not only for people who already code. It is for students who are curious, willing to learn, and interested in seeing how AI can be applied in real settings.
What guides us
Mission, vision & purpose.
We envision Business AI Society as a Christ-centered community that forms students to engage artificial intelligence with confidence, purpose, and faithful stewardship as they prepare for meaningful careers in an AI-integrated society.
Business AI Society exists to bridge the gap between curiosity and capability in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Students will grow in the knowledge, discernment, and experience needed to navigate the demands of their future careers and leadership opportunities. Through opportunities for exploration, skill development, and shared learning, the society seeks to strengthen AI awareness and engagement across Baylor.
How we're organized
Three pillars, one mission.
Each pillar is owned by peer officers. The most valuable work tends to happen where they overlap, which is exactly what the structure is designed to encourage.
Community Education
Bring people in, and bring them up to speed. This pillar owns recruiting a committed cohort and running a structured beginner-to-advanced path so that anyone, regardless of background, can reach the point of contributing real technical work.
- Recruitment cycles, info sessions & interviews
- New-member onboarding
- The AI Foundation Series
- Workshops: prompting, APIs, automation
Officers: VP of Membership · VP of Talent Development
AI Technical Development
The build engine. Strategy frames the business problem and scopes projects worth doing; Architecture holds the broad picture so work stays coherent and reusable; Engineering turns designs into shipping systems and raises everyone's technical bar along the way.
- Project ideation & scoping (internal & consulting)
- Technical architecture & roadmaps
- Hands-on build sessions
- Demos of completed tools & systems
Officers: VP of AI Strategy · VP of AI Architecture · VP of AI Engineering
External & Campus Impact
Carry the work outward. This pillar brings the outside world in through speakers and partners, and broadcasts AIS out through a clear, consistent public presence, so the society is felt across campus and recognized in industry.
- Guest speakers, panels & roundtables
- Company partnerships & sponsorships
- Sponsored competitions
- Marketing, brand & project showcases
Officers: VP of External Relations · VP of Marketing & Brand
How we lead
A flat heterarchy.
“Business AI Society operates as a flat heterarchy at the officer level. Every VP is a peer (a node with a clear focus). The President convenes, aligns, and acts as the ultimate orchestrator, bridging everyone together.”
Power is spread across the officer layer rather than stacked in a chain of command. Each officer owns a focus, but it's cross-officer communication, not directives, that turns ideas into decisions. Consensus is the default; the President breaks ties when one is needed.
Operating principles
Shared decision-making
Power is distributed. Everyone has a focus, but communication across roles is what produces decisions.
Communication is the glue
High-frequency, cross-role communication, not a chain of command, holds the society together.
Informal networks matter
Officer-to-officer relationships carry as much weight as the org chart.
Conflict is a catalyst
Disagreement drives growth. It's a feature of a healthy board, not a threat to it.
Everyone shapes direction
Don't just execute your lane. Contribute to where AIS goes next.
Make space for participation
Officers actively invite members into their areas of work.
Adaptive by design
Roles evolve as internal needs and the external AI landscape shift.
Servant leadership
Many styles are welcome, but servant leadership is the baseline, consistent with our Christ-centered culture.
Get involved
You don't need to be an expert. You need to be curious.
AIS is built to take you from interested to capable. Bring the curiosity; we'll bring the path.
